Funicamp Mid-Station – Solanelles – Pic Alt del Cubil

This is a demanding route, recommended only for experienced high-mountain hikers in good physical condition. Although the scrambling sections do not involve major technical difficulty, confidence of movement and strong navigation skills are essential, as the route is marked by cairns, blue paint marks and poles that can sometimes be hard to spot. It is important to allow plenty of time and choose a day with stable weather conditions.

We will start from the car park and walk down the road to the first bend, where we will find the route signpost and information board. We will then follow the wide track, pass through a gate —making sure to close it behind us— and continue steadily uphill, parallel to the Funicamp line.

The track leads to the Collada d’Enradort (km 3.5). On the left stands the upper Funicamp station (Solanelles), and on the right a small maintenance hut. Just to the left of this hut begins the path that climbs firmly uphill.

Once this section is completed, we will follow the fence line along the ridge until we reach the rocky base of Pic Alt del Cubil. Here the obvious path ends and the more alpine part of the ascent begins. We must carefully follow the cairns, blue markings and poles. If at any point the route feels overly exposed or unsafe on descent, it is likely that we have strayed from the correct itinerary.

At the summit, the effort is fully rewarded: the sweeping views and sense of vastness quite literally take your breath away.
