Sant Miquel de la Mosquera Church
A small church dedicated to the Archangel Michael and John the Baptist, of uncertain date. It was extended in the 19th century. The apse is not differentiated from the nave and above the west wall is a bell tower with a single opening.
One of the jewels of the route is this small church dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel and Saint John the Baptist. Although its exact origins are uncertain, it was expanded in the 19th century.
Its structure is simple: the apse and the nave share a single space, and on the west wall rises a bell tower with a single opening. But it is inside where the church reveals all its charm.
The 16th-century altarpiece is a remarkable work of sacred art, depicting the patron saints with great care. On the walls and vault of the presbytery, and also on the ceiling of the nave, are murals painted towards the end of the 19th century by the artist Oromí from La Seu d’Urgell. The main theme is the Transfiguration of Christ, surrounded by many details that invite a closer look.
What makes this church truly special are two unusual curiosities: one, that one of the Ten Commandments is missing from the ceiling paintings; and the other, even rarer, is the presence of Judas Iscariot in the altarpiece, a figure almost never represented in such works.
